Announcing: Yummy You! by Twinkie Chan

February 5, 2010

Sooooo I have been alluding to a big announcement for a little while, and I wanted to wait for some of the paperwork to clear up before mentioning anything. Then, I lagged on saying anything because I got mired in the stress of it all, and then it didn’t seem like such exciting news anymore…. and then it was like… what is the statute of limitations on hinting at something exciting….being able to announce it…and then failing to mention it anymore and let it fade and pretend like you never mentioned it in the first place? Hehehe, Ok maybe I over-think!

Anyhoodles….!!! My news is this:

YummyYou! by Twinkie Chan

There’s not really anything up there yet, just a placeholder, but everything has been happening at lightning speed and this is all I got right now! :P (btw….does the pic have a blue-ish hue to you? Let me know how it appears on your monitors!!! I am still having weird color issues I think!)

So yes, I partnered with a company to help me mass-produce (but still hand-make) my scarves and stuff and bring it to a bigger level. It’s what I’ve wanted for a long time, and I’m excited and scared that it is starting to happen. I could have tried to go bigger on my own, but I really didn’t want to end up spending all my time managing more helpers, dealing with quality control, handling fulfillment on a larger scale, etc. In fact, perhaps un-like many crafters, I never really dreamed of running my own business. I don’t have the entrepreneurial blood. I have the creative blood! Some people have both. I kinda don’t :P . I want to have lots of time to design new things…and considering how long it takes me to design/make ONE scarf … I need all the time I can get!

We went into super warp-drive, because the company was excited, and we were excited that they were excited, and we are prepping for a booth at the Pool Tradeshow (or the Magic Tradeshow) in Vegas on February 16-18. We kind of attempted to create something out of nothing in just TWO MONTHS. Sourcing the crochet goods. Making/designing new and exciting samples you’ve never seen before. Designing tees and hoodies. Packaging. Everything. It’s been crazy. Plus I’ve been working on my book! So this is why my Etsy shop has been like a ghost town!

The cool thing is that you will soon be able to get all your favorite Twinkie Chan goodies at a more affordable price, and there will definitely be more than, like, two cupcake scarves available at one time :) .

I will still be here as Twinkie Chan, with my Etsy shop, designing new stuffs and handmaking old-favorites. Yummy You! will be the icing on the proverbial cake :) .

So I can’t wait to share more about all of this as it happens! It’s really weird and bizarre and I have no idea how it will all pan out. But my goal for 2009, when I quit my publishing job, was to find a great company to work with, and I met that goal. 2010 will be a wild ride! It has been so far!

P.S. If there are cool/cute boutiques in your area that you think would love to carry Yummy You! by Twinkie Chan, please do leave a comment, and a link to it if possible. THANK YOU! :) Happy Friday!

I’m so excited for you. A larger scale line and a book. I’ll probably buy the book when it comes out, since I love to read. As far as local places that might be interested in your Yummy You! line, there is a unique shop in Cary Town in Richmond, VA, called World of Mirth. They have a wacky assortment of toys, gifts, clothing and random wacky things. I think your scarfs would fit in perfectly.

Congratulations! That is very exciting! Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time! I’m like you – not very good with the business end. I get bored easily, and would much rather do creative stuff than deal with production/business. Here’s to a smashingly successful 2010 for you!

Sorry to be a full-time lurker/one-time commenter. I just think this is so awesome, I had to say something. :)

I know! I’m really excited! I think the quality will end up being pretty close to what I’d make, but the pricing will be soooo much more accessible to more people :)

      Twinkie Chan says:

I think we are trying to stay a little bit more boutique-y for a bit before jumping into Hot Topic! :)

      • Shelbi says:

I’m glad you’re avoiding Hot Topic, at least for now. I’ve noticed that when when “small-time” crafters jump on that boat, the quality and uniqueness of their items that makes them so awesome, diminishes considerably.

Anyway, I’m proud of you for doing something this crazy! With a book that’s coming out (Which I’m totally planning on buying) and this, your life must be insane! This is really cool. :D

      Twinkie Chan says:

Sometimes I get scared about handmade because there seem to be sooo many variables that effect the quality, but I’ll cross my fingers on this one….! I haven’t seen final samples yet! :P

    Bananaroo says:

Oh my god oh my god!!!!!! You have no idea how happy this makes me….I’ve been DYING for a cupcake scarf for years. I think I spoke to you about it on SG once or twice (it’s Dinah Suicide, remember me?) So, I can’t wait for the launch of your line and for your upcoming book! I’ll finally have the opportunity to wear my very own Twinky Chan cupcake scarf……yes!!!!!!

      Twinkie Chan says:

I’m not sure!! We have the trade show in 10 days, and then I guess it depends on what stores are interested….and how long the whole order and shipping process takes. This is all new to me, so I have no idea. Fear not, whenever I hear about stuff actually being purchase-able…I will letcha all know!

      Twinkie Chan says:

Hi! your store looks suuuuuuper cute!!!!!!!

I’m always afraid to commit to consigning the Twinkie Chan handmade because I take forever to fill orders and I think it makes the stores impatient :/.

And we probably can only wholesale the Yummy You handmade, not consign. So I’m not sure if we’d be a good fit right now.

If I have more time to consign the goods I create in-house…I will be sure to look you up! :) xoox

YAY! I’m so excited for you!
I remember the days when you used to just sell one of a kinds on your site via e-mail/paypal. Don’t ask me why i seem to remember the monster toes scarf!

I do consignment with this humble little shop in Chinatown. Michelle the owner is really cool to work with. The store is awesome but the location is a little random. it’s kinda the side of chinatown that’s trying to be hipper. They do order stuff wholesale too so it’s not consignment only.
