EDIT!!!!!! THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED!!!!!!!! I WILL NO LONGER APPROVE COMMENTS FOR THIS ENTRY. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!
Hey folks,
I’ve always wanted to do a giveaway, but I’ve been so crazy busy that I never have anything left to giveaway!
I took the opportunity after BazaarBizarre to put together a lil sumthinsumthin for all of you who have supported me and read my blog!
This giveaway package includes red and white striped peppermint wristwarmers/fingerless gloves, a red and white striped peppermint candy-heart necklace, and a red and wdhite swirled lollipop brooch.

TO ENTER:
Just leave a comment on my blog, telling me what your most favorite holiday treat is! (and make sure to enter your email address in the email address field so I know how to contact you!)
DEADLINE:
This is super quick! I will choose a winner with a random-number-generator on Monday, December 21st, at noon, PST. This way, I can hopefully have time to contact the winner, and have the winner send me his/her mailing address, and get the package out before the post office closes on the same day. For people in the U.S., the package should arrive before Xmas (according to the USPS….). Sorry to my international readers! I just didn’t get my act together in time! I will obviously still send the package to an international winner, but the package will probably definitely not arrive in time for Xmas.
Okay, this is my first giveaway at my own blog, so if I left anything out or messed something up…please let me know!
xoxo

It’s SO difficult to say what my favourite holiday treat is… But if I had to choose one thing, it would be eating chocolate in bed with my awesome girlfriend and watching DVDs whilst not having to be at work. And that definitely counts as one thing!

For eating, my favourite holiday treat is probably marzipan fruits, as I adore marzipan and they have the added benefit of looking like tiny fruits so are therefore cute. I like making them too, they are really easy but people always seem so impressed! And for an experience, my favourite holiday treat is having a whole day where I can lounge around in my pyjamas eating chocolate with my younger siblings and no one can tell me off for being lazy because it’s Christmas! x

To be honest I usually just mould the fruits from ready made marzipan I buy in a packet, because making it from scratch ends up costing about 5 times as much as buying it readymade! But one of my friends made me this really cool cake for my birthday which was chocolate with homemade marzipan, and he basically used this recipe without the lemon juice http://thefoody.com/baking/marzipan.html Apparently it is really easy. I am totally obsessed with marzipan to eat, the smell, anything almondy! I even had a perfume which smelt like marzipan at one point, and Burt’s Bees do this great marzipan scented handcream called Almond Milk Hand Creme. Sorry this is a really long comment, but I am excited that you love marzipan too, normally people think I am weird for my obsession with it! Oh and Merry Christmas!

I’ll have to get that Burt’s Bees hand cream! 2 yrs ago at Ulta for Christmas they added Almond to their Body lotion/bath gel/hand lotion and I was in heaven everytime I took a shower!!! It smelled exactly like Marzipan! I so wish I would have bought a case cuz I can’t find it anymore : (
OOh and I love the Pignoli nut Italian cookies! Have you ever had them? Its perfeclty crunch on the outside and soft almond flavored cookie on inside with Pine nuts on top! And Rainbow Cookies! Ok now I’m hungry!! Good to find someone else whose as Marzipan/almond obsessed as I am!

My favourite holiday treat is definitely the leftover turkey sandwich. My mum has perfected the art of it – two thick slices of white bread, with butter, a thin layer of good quality mayonnaise, rough cut tukey (especially any that still has the skin, mm!) with a pass of salt, then stuffing, cranberry sauce and thin slivers of pickled onion. SO. GOOD.

Anyways, One of them is a traditional Mexican Christmas treat, the tamale. Every year I scarf them down like a mad man! Along with my second favorite treat, peanut butter balls! They’re know as buckeyes to some people but none-the-less they are so delicious, and fun to make! Creamy peanut butter wrapped in a silky layer of chocolate *drools*

The last two holiday seasons I’ve not gone home to be with my family so my favourite things were not in the really in the picture. There was always my stand by of a couple of packages of contessa lebkuchen (a German gingerbread cake covered in chocolate on one side– here’s a link to what it looks like if you’re curious http://bit.ly/4rJK4P) and a bottle of Champagne. But this year I’m actually going there so I made a list for my mum of all the things we have to eat/make. Including all of my favourites that over the years make me think of the holidays: polish glamupki, spritz cookies (until they’re coming out of my ears), gingerbread cake with maple whip cream, molasses cookies, cheese straws, homemade Eggs Benedict, fresh pasta, some kind of risotto (sun dried tomatoes, zucchini something), and I’m sure there’s at least 5 other kinds of cookies she’s planning that I don’t know about, and that’s just the start of the list!
I hope you have a holiday filled with warmth, lots of sweet treats, and time enough to finish all your crocheting/holiday presents! I know I’ll be knitting until the last minute!

Here’s my Mum’s recipe and advice–
1 Lb of cheese- grated- make sure it’s a super sharp cheese or the cheesy flavour won’t come through
1 stick of unsalted butter- melted
2 c. flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp red cayenne pepper
Mix all the ingredients together, chill for a few hours,
Roll out on wax paper, pretty thin, not paper-thin but not as thick at cookies; more like piecrust and less like cookies, and cut out in the shapes that you want, bake at 325 for 10-12 min
Be sure not to put too much flour when you roll it out—or it won’t taste like cheese anymore it will taste like flour— that’s why it’s important to roll out on wax paper.
To make straw shape cut with one of those wavy pastry cutters and cut in sections about 3 inch long and an inch wide…
or what my mum does; she cuts in them in circles with a circle cookie cutter, and then cuts a date in half and pinches the two sides of the circle over the top of the date and bakes them, the date doesn’t affect the cooking time.
My Mum says they taste better if you make them a day ahead and put them in a tin box and then use them, not a few days… just the one day in the tin box.

My favourite holiday treat is making Chocolate Balls with my family. They have also been referred to as Naked Chaked Balls due to the chocolate crash and burn a few years back and our lack of chocolate dipping sauce.
And this year, we watched a Robin Williams comedy special, so they were especially dirty. Like, inviting my sister’s boyfriend, but informing him that he would have to dip is own balls.
Yeah…my family is kinda odd

As someone who is constantly baking, it’s pretty hard to pick just one holiday favorite! My favorite Christmas treat would have to be ribbon candy. Its my dad’s favorite too. I don’t have a whole lot of holiday memories with him, but every year we (just the two of us) would hit up every single candy store in search of ribbon candy, coz it was what made his christmas. For some reason it was really hard to find!

okkkkkkkk, favorite holiday treat…??? well let me start by saying i am a jew who has celebrated christmas for as long as i can remember (and i have memories back to 2 yrs old!!)! single mom, two kids, both parents jewish, she looooooved christmas, blah-de-blah!
oh k- all that said my mom was not what you’d call the typical mom who loves to cook and bake for christmas- my grandma (who loved upstairs in the house we lived in with them)- loved to cook- but again not bake so much!! so I can’t remember any special baked treat or special christmas food (ask me bout thanksgiving!!)!
but every christmas morning after we’d open our presents with our mom downstairs- we’d run upstairs to grandma and grandpa and open gifts and have pancake breakfast…i loved that morning!! jeez- i honestly hadn’t thought of that since they were both alive!! thank you! you helped bring back some fond memories and that means alot!!!
love you and love the beautiful crafts your talent brings!!!! Happy Holidays!!! luv danette : D

My favorite treat during the holidays is simply that of a rainbow candy cane.
I love dining on one and fashioning a razor sharp treat from meticulously sucking on the candy cane.
I’ve had a few incidents wherein I’ve pricked my mouth with the deadly candy cane but it is honestly fun as hell and worth the casualties.
Happy Holidays!

My favorite is English toffee. My family has made it every year for as long as I can remember. I would even eat it when I had a retainer, and just let it dissolve back into sugar. Mmmmm.
The best part when making it is when the chocolate chips have melted on top and you get to spread them with a butter knife. So cool!

Sugar overload! I am an Australian ex-pat so I think I would have to say my favourite non-food related holiday treat is the snow! It makes everything feel extra sparkly and happy. As an entomologist dash foodie, my favourite non-food related holiday treat this year would be home-made cider beetles! They’re basically dried out orange halves filled with brown sugar and whole spices (for the antennae, legs and eyes) are pressed into them. They can be dropped into hot apple cider or wine.

well…. i dont know how to spell them, but pizelles! they are the perfect holiday treat, because they have a warm anise taste, they smell yummy when you bake them, and they look like stars or snowflakes when they come out of the iron! plus, i have happy memories as a kid of making them with my italian nonna, my mom and sisters. They are thin so you can make about a thousand of them, and eat about that many…at least i can
ps: they would make a lovely scarf design! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizzelle <3<3<3<3<3<3

My fav holiday treat has to be Cappelletti. It’s not a sweet, but it is delicious!!! It has long been a Christmas tradition for my Italian Grandmother (Nonna) to have a couple of the grandkids over and help her make cappelletti for the Christmas soup. Soooo goood!!! The pot never lasts long. It is sort of like a really delicious round ravioli soup. {Since I’ve grown I learned that the secret ingredients that make it soooo good are lemon zest and nutmeg…shhhh!}

My most favorite holiday treat is my Gramma’s recipe of homemade Peppermint Cheesecake. Its probably where I got my mint obsession, I always have to have either a mint or gum in my mouth, because 1. I love the taste and 2. I’m always afraid my breath will stink! But I’ve never had any complaints–so I guess I’m doing well.
Anyhoo, it always gets me more in the Christmas spirit because my job in the cake-making-process is to drizzle the mint topping on top, and make it all prettylike. Always a fun occasion.

Its like a biscuit with cinnamon, orange, honey, walnuts and many many other ingredients. Usually all women of the family (regardless the age) are gathering 5 days before christmas and start making em, its almost like a ritual and pretty much fun.
My friend who lives in SoCal just loves em, i send him every year a huge box full of em and he just devours em haha

Monkey bread is my favorite! It’s definitely a food you eat with your friends–you pick pieces off with your fingers. I think sharing it like that makes it even better for the holidays
It’s pieces of biscuit dough shook up in a ziploc bag of cinnamon sugar, layered on top of each other in a Bundt pan, topped with a brown sugar & butter mixture, and baked. When it’s done cooling, you flip it over onto a plate and all the syrup just melts everywhere~
It’s so sweet and delicious! Sadly, hardly anyone I know has heard of it…

It’s kinda like pumpkin bread, but they’re a lil firmer and more like the firmness of scones but are as moist as cake. And there’s chocolate chips in them! My friend would make them and sometimes top them with a little bit of cream cheese frosting. (And especially for me, she makes my batch with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.)

I’d definitely have to say hot chocolate with marshmallows!! I hate the cold, but hot chocolate in the winter always reminds me of when I was a kid. My siblings and I would play outside for hours, making snow forts and snowmen and when we came inside my mom would have hot chocolate with marshmallows ready for us.

Since I live in South Africa, we sorta have a different holiday thing – I mean, we still do mince pies and fruit cake and everything, but I still don’t know what eggnog is! So although it’s not specifically a “holiday treat”, one of my favourite things to eat at this time of year is koeksisters! These are traditionally South African treats which are made by plaiting dough and deep-frying it, and then pouring a cold syryp sauce over. It sounds a bit strange, but is so so delicious!
Thanks for the give-away, Twinkie!

Favorite holiday treat…hmm..Lets see… I would have to say its a hot chocolate recipe that has been handed down in our family.
Its made from a very special chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and topped off with whipped cream. As a garnish we add either peppermint or chocolate shavings. And a sprinkle of cinnammon or canela as we call it.
( I think thats the spelling)… Anyway its great to share with someone or just as a treat for yourself…
Happy Holidays

It has to be between my mum’s Pecan Pie or my truffle balls!
I got the recipe for the truffles off a friend, and I only make them once a year because they’re so unbelievably decadent, and they’re so good! Oh I’ve got a hankering for the white chocolate ones right now…
My mum’s Pecan Pie is also amazing. It’s perfect cold, out of the container (yeah, I know, scum!) or warm with ice cream, I could literally eat three whole ones to myself.
I’m going to have to go make some toast before going to work now, and my stomach is going to be so disappointed that that’s all I’m putting in it!!

Okay, my favourite holidays?
Not the christmas one nor the summer one… Okay I think my favourite holidays are the ones in April. I don’t know if you have holidays in April in the USA but in France we do. There are the last holidays before exams so we spend all the time with our friends. Besides, the time is perfect to go out =D
****
Huh… misunderstandings…
So the answer is actually “going out with friends” ’cause during school time we’re juste too tired to do anything~
